Phantom FGR2 XT914 was one of the last RAF fighter jets to be based at RAF Wattisham, taking off for the last time in October 1992 before the station was handed over to the Army in 1993.

Based with 74 Squadron, XT914 was one of the official display jets in 1992.

After its last flight, the aircraft was saved from the scrapyard to first stand as a gate guardian at RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire before moving to RAF Brampton in Cambs.

Engineers will now break the aircraft down so it can be transported to Wattisham, where museum curator Maggie Aggiss said “I can’t wait for it to arrive, so that we can get started on the refurbishment and finally display it.
I remember when the Phantoms flew at Wattisham so it will be lovely to have this one back home!”
