POLL: What image editing software do we use?

Post by DJdeRidder »

Quick poll in response to this topic. I think the question is pretty clear.

I tried to list the most important pieces of software. Unfortunately, I cannot add more than 11 options.

I realize some people use a raw converter (Camera Raw, DPP, Lightroom) in combination with pixel editors (GIMP, Photoshop), but please try to select your most important/favorite application. Of course, further explanations are welcome..

Edit: you can now select up to 3 options.

I`m only using DPP, the standard Canon software. For me at this moment good enough.

Hi DJ, nice poll !

Here is my workflow, listed in sequence of use:

Photo Mechanic 4.6.2 - quick RAW-viewer, used for picking the individual shots which I want to process
Adobe Lightroom 3.5 - RAW-editor used for overall enhancements like lighting, contrast, sharpness, whitebalance etc
Adobe Photoshop CS4 - Photo editor used for specific editing like borders, text, manipulation, layers, special tasks
Photomatix Pro 4.1.2 - for all kind of HDR enhancements
AutoStitch 2.2 - for panoramic photo stitching

I use Photo Mechanic as my main photo selection tool because I think Adobe Bridge and Lightroom are too slow for that job. Right now I consider Adobe Lightroom to be my main photo editor. Photomatix and AutoStitch are only used a few times a year.

Cheers,
Iwan

Hi...

Nice poll!
My main software is Nikon Capture NX2, always updated to the latest version, at this moment v2.3.0.
I rarely use Photoshop, it is used only to remove dustspots and, if necessary, some cloning.
For noise removing I use NoiseWare Professional v2.6

I use Photoshop exclusively.
Basic workflow:

- Open RAW file, adjust RAW settings (Tone, brightness, contrast, etc)
- Copy layer so I always have the original to fall back on
- Straighten horizon
- Select plane (wand and/or magnetic lasso tool) - save selection
- Adjust levels, contrast, brightness, color (saturation, sometimes hue) etc. from selection
- Repeat for background
- Reduce noise
- Crop / resize
- Select plane from saved selection
- Sharpen
I shoot planes with a Canon

Interesting to see what other people use.
For me:

FastStone Image Viewer 4.2 for a quick look which shots to keep and which not
Photoshop CS3 for all editing tasks
Noiseware Professional 2.6 for noise removal
Autostich 2.2 for piecing together panoramas.

I only use two of them:

Lightroom 3.5 for picking photos, RAW editting, Tagging
Photoshop CS4 for the finishing touch
