Structure of Soviet/Russian Regiments in former East Germany

Post by 11E »

Were can I find the structure of Soviet/Russian army aviation and air force regiments in former East germany?

What I have is that the regiments at Wittstock and Merseburg had 3 squadrons. Is this standard for an air force regiment ,and have these squadrons a number like ''23 Squadron'' or is it just 1st, 2nd and 3rd Squadron?

About Army aviation I have that the Mahlwinkel Rgt was divided in two Mi-24 battalions and two Mi-8 companies. Is this standard for Helicopter Rgts assigned to the various armies in the WGF?

Thanks in advance
Regards,
Lesley

Rote Plätze, Russische Militärflugplätze Deutschland 1945-1994

Lutz Freundt & Stefan Büttner; ISBN: 978-3-935535-11-4; Aerolit

A very good book, with post-print additions on the publisher's website.

Thanks Gldepath! I wasn't even aware of the book you mentioned. I will look it up for myself.
What I meant was the four part series
"Sovjetische Fliegerkräfte Deutschland 1945-1994", published between 1998 and 2000. A must for those who made the pilgrimage to the former GDR back in the day!
Band 1: No ISBN
Band 2: 3-00-002665-7
Band 3: 3-00-004649-6
Band 4: No ISBN
