QinetiQ is finally replacing its veteran Andovers and BAC One-Elevens with initial purchase of an Avro RJ100
This will replace the veteran BAC One-Elevens and Hawker-Siddeley Andovers that are being withdrawn from service. The aircraft, G-BZAY (c/n E3368), will carry serial QQ101.
UK-based aircraft asset management company Falko Regional Aircraft Ltd confirmed on January 16 that it had sold the aircraft to QinetiQ.
Following formal hand-over to QinetiQ, it was ferried from Kemble to Cranfield, Bedfordshire, on December 16, 2011, for maintenance and modification by Avalon Aero Ltd prior to entering service later this year.
It is scheduled to enter service in the first quarter of 2012 and will be used to support the training of test pilots and flight test engineers at the Empire Test Pilots School as well as for flight testing of a variety of airborne technology developments.
