Ik heb heb vooral mijn best gedaan op de scherpte. Verder simpele contrast / brightness ingrepen gedaan.

programma:
Photoshop cs5

Acties:
crop
level - alleen contrast en brightness
verscherpt met unsharpmask 500/0,2/0
resized naar 1200x800

I did two options today, just for fun.

1: the fan blades a little bit lighter than above
Image

2: the greyish option by abusing the curve sliders

I edited your shot in Lightroom 3 as well as in Lightroom 4 Beta to compare the differences. On purpose, I did not compare the final result or settings during editing.

LR4

I guess I like the first shot best. I do think LR4 is better after all, I possibly just have to get used to some of the new sliders.. Any comments welcome.

Personally, I feel that Delta12's and DJ's shots are too dark.

This is what I made of it:

RAW-converter:
Exposure +0,50
Fill light +10

Crop
Resize --> 1600 --> 1200 --> 1024
Equalize (check for dust spots)
Levels --> 10 / 1,10 / 255
Saturation +20
Select sky with magic wand
Inverse
Duplicate Layer
Smart sharpen --> 40 / 0,3
Duplicate Layer
Smart sharpen --> 40 / 0,3
Eraser --> erase jaggies on flaps, stabilizer and titles
Then I noticed noise in the dark areas, so I used my neat-image plug-in to remove it: 50% / 100% / 10%
Save for web

Result:

This was a very easy edit though, done within a few minutes, which in my opinion means that the shot is almost perfect. Everything photo that requires < 3 mins. of editing is a good shot. I would suggest a bigger challenge for the next photo :)

How I would make my way to the final result:
Edited with CS 5.1
Opened in ARC 6.3:
Slightly cropped and levelled
Temp: 5400 and +8
Exp. +0,25, Rec. 10, Fill 5, Blacks 5, Bright. 50, Cont. 55, Clarity +30, Vibr. 0, Sat. +15.
Some curves adjustment, towards slightly more contraty curve
Sharpening: 55 / 1,0 / 25 / 0
Opened image in CS5.1:
Levels adj.: RGB 0 / 0,99 / 250 Red 0 / 0,98 / 255
Slightly little curves adj. for little less dark engines inside and more contrasty sky.
Select airplane: layer via copy
Smart sharpen: 45 / 0,9
Unsharp Mask: 33 / 0,3 / 0
Resize: width 1050px
Save

I'd rather depict atmosphere and the 'heat of the moment' making a catchy photo than to reflect the real situation and real colours showing a boring photo.

Nice topic.
Here is my edit, couldn't open the file in DPP, so I had to use CameraRAW/PS CS5.5

CameraRAW:
Made a crop, rotated the image a bit.
Temp: 5850
Tint: +2
Exposure: +1
Fill light: 7
Blacks: 9
Brightness: +16
Contrast: +31
Clarity: +14
Saturation: +9

In PS: Resized to 1024px
Selected the sky, reduce noise 25%
Inverted selection (just the AC): sharpen 25% & usm 25%
Equalized, removed the dustspot
Saved & uploaded.
