As announced to Parliament last year, the air security plan for the Olympic Games is multi-layered and will see Typhoon aircraft forward-based at London’s RAF Northolt,

helicopters operating from HMS Ocean on the River Thames and appropriate Ground Based Air Defence systems across London.
Rather convenient, an RAF base near London...

RAF Northolt may be sold to raise defence funds
Ministry of Defence considering selling off all or parts of one of its oldest airfields, which could become Heathrow satellite

Given the amount of money spent on Northolt in the last decade and the number of military units resident there, any sale would be stupid at best.

There again, the UK MoD is well capable of such stupidy and much more.

The first Typhoons have already graced the circuit at RAF Northolt,as reported in the Northolt section.
