Aviation on TV

Post by DJdeRidder »

Is it an idea to start a general topic about aviation-related documentaries, movies and shows on tv?

Let me start..

Today between 11:30 and 18:00 Discovery (NL) broadcasts a marathon of the documentary 'HMS Ark Royal - The Final Voyage' (preview). Lots of Harrier and helicopter action, even a USMC AV-8B detachment deploying onboard doing bombing and strafing runs on a target towed behind the ship! If you're into it, it's really worth taking a look (I've already seen most parts)..

BBC1 19:00 this Sunday 14th August

A Documentary about the Vulcan XH558

The last flying Vulcan will feature prominently in a new documentary to be shown on BBC One on Sunday evenings. 'Britain's Hidden Heritage' explores fascinating projects that typify British endeavour and achievement. Journalist John Sergeant visited XH558's new home at Robin Hood Airport near Doncaster and flew beside the aircraft with the Blades aerobatics team, fulfilling what he called 'a childhood dream'. The Vulcan is featured in the first programme of the series, which will be broadcast at 19:00hrs this Sunday 14th August.

Discovery Netherlands? I only know the regular discovery and Discovery HD showcase. Can you provide us with a date and time please?

I think Discovery NL = the regular Discovery.

The 160 SOAR episode was (in terms of aviation) not thát interesting. You only saw footage of new recruits going through ground drills and (very tough) ground training. No flying action.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes, I meant the regular Discovery channel. I'm pretty sure the programming on Discovery in the Netherlands is not the same as in France, Germany or the United Kingdom (if only because of the subtitling). That's why I mentioned it the way I did.

There was a tiny bit of flying action at the end (they were flying Black Hawks making a simulated emergency landing in hostile terrain), but I agree I expected more of it..
