I saw a picture of AH-1W 165049 on a Japanese website in July 2000,so this one should be confirmed.

The following HMM-262(R) AH-1Ws were seen on the USS Essex last February on it's visit to Thailand,

The modexes rarely change and the AH-1W/UH-1Ns at Futenma remain constant,apart from some point in 2010 when most of or all the resident UH-1N at Futenma were shipped to AMARG.Unfortunately reports for the AH/UH-1 in Japan are very rare.

The 2012 visit of the USS Essex to Thailand this year was cancelled to to technical problems.

Any Osprey crashes between now and October 01 will make this difficult.There are many problems with Okinawa residents with any developments at Futenma due to the CH-53E crash on the grounds of the adjacant university in 2003 and ongoing issues with the re-location of this base.

Elements within the Japanese government have cited the recent MV-22 crashes in Morocco and Florida as a reason(excuse)? to withold permission of this type being operated on Japanese soil.

USMC unit VMGR-152 "Sumo", This KC-130J unit has a PMAI of 15 airplanes.Some souces state there are only 14,with 167109 having been transferred to VMGR-352 at MCAS,Miramar,but I do not believe this to be correct.167109 was logged on SBS calling Sumo 93 on the 17th July backing this view.

To clarify the following KC-130J should be current here-all are coded QD,

The planned PMAI of this unit(and the other 2 regular VMGR units) should increase to 17 airplanes according to the FY11 USMC Aviation "road map" later this decade.
