Technically it is civil news or warbird news as this airplane was no longer owned by a government!

Technically it was the loss of a friend.

Captain "Lex" LeFon, you are missed by a great many people whose lives you touched.
My sincere condolences to your Wife, Daughters, and Son.

It was a civil registered fighter jet owned by a civil company (Airborne Tactical Advantage Company LLC) flown by a civil pilot, but performing military tasks for the US Government / US Navy and operating from a Naval Air Station.

So in my opinion in can be sorted both under military AND civil news.... :!:

When you mentioned the URL http://www.neptunuslex.com the penny finally dropped...

While not all people in Europe would have shared his personal and political views "Lex" Lefon actually was a GREAT aviation writer/blogger!

It's a particularly bitter irony his last ever "aviation feature" at http://www.neptunuslex.com/2012/03/06/streamer , about a non-functioning tail chute while landing his IAI Kfir F-21, started like this:
By lex, on March 6th, 2012

I supposed it had to happen eventually, everybody has one in time. And I had mine yesterday.
Less than 24 hours later after putting it online himself Lex was dead...

You mentioned the bitter irony of how his last aviation post started.

I tend to look more towards the prophetic but comforting words he ended his post with.
By lex, on March 6th, 2012
It’s funny how quickly you can go from “comfort zone” to “wrestling snakes” in this business.

But even snake wrestling beats life in the cube, for me at least. In measured doses.
Lex posted that around 4:10 AM even as he was getting up for an early brief for a morning Hop.
5 hours later, the Snakes won.

But his last line about "even snake wrestling beats life in the cube...."
He died doing what he loved.
