Help wanted: DeHavilland Doves at Lelystad, 1992

Post by phkza »

Hello all,

Found some pictures from back in 1992 (according to the print on the back) when I was a kid and visited some sort of event at Lelystad Airport.

In the pictures are two different DeHavilland Doves. One is grey with a blue cheatline and has Battle of Britain Memorial Flight on it. I believe this should be G-DHDV.

The other one looks similar to the one above, only the part above the blue cheatline is white. It appears to have RAF roundels.

Can anyone shed a light on this and maybe provide registrations and, perhaps, the name and date of the event.

Pictures of both birds:

http://www.scramble.nl/mil/show/showrep ... lyst92.htm , a report from 29 August 1992, elsewhere on this website comes up with two Devons:
Sea Devon C.20 G-SDEV "XK895/CU-19"
Devon C.2 G-BLRN "WB531"
G-BLRN cn 04266 even used to be based at Lelystad in the early 1990s. She's now D-INKA in LTU colours.

First one is DH-104 Devon C2 VP981 but according my info not at the EHLE airshow 29 august 1992 (and also not at EHLE Airshow 28 august 1993). Was in use as crew ferry as VP981 by the BoBMF from between 1985 and 1993. Civil registered as G-DHDV "VP981" at 26 october 1998 (Air Atlantique Ltd.). No idea were the photo was taken. Maybe you saw the aircraft at another airport/airshow ? (Florennes, Belgium, 12 september 1992 ?)

Second one is DH-104 Sea Devon C20 G-SDEV "XK895/CU-19" at EHLE Airshow 29 august 1992.

Both years (1992-1993) DH-104 Devon C2 G-BLRN "WB531" was also present at Lelystad.

Thanks for the help guys!

Should be G-DHDV and G-SDEV then, also compared to other shots from that day.

Everybody is wrong about the date... It was 23 may 1992. I didn't write down at the time what the occasion was, but I just see in m'n movements that all Fokkker Four S-11's had extra "10"-titles, so the party was held because the Fokker Four existed 10 years! :D

The silver/blue Devon C.2/2 is indeed WP981 from the BBMF, which (as Robert wrote) was really still military, and the other one is Sea Devon C.20 G-SDEV in its original colours as XK895/CU-19.
Devon G-BLRN was there obviously (as WB531, so without an civil registration painted on) and finally Devon C.2 G-ALFM was also there, in RAF c/s, but with civil reg painted on.

The log as I wrote it down (sadly I don't know the type belonging to N9008A, because I didn't write the types down that day... and so I forgot what that was.
