There are no info.s about the autumn airshows by now.
Because the budget of FY2012(Apr.1 to Mar. 31, 2013) is not decided at the Japanese parliament in this year, JSDF can not release full airshow schedules by now,I think.
The schedules I wrote are from the official announcements, but they are based on the provisional budget. So I expect there will happen some date-changes in this year(Only my opinion).
Please wait about one more month, or until we decide the budget of FY2012.
Then I'll be able to tell you more info.s about the airshows in the autumn.
I did not know that the (new) annual budget was leading in publishing the airshow dates. Nevertheless I think you are still very lucky in Japan, with so many airshows. With 26 - 45 airshows at almost 50 airbases, there is always a lot to choose from. In Holland we have six militairy airbases, and in 2012 we don't even have one airshow. Due to budgetcuts it has been decided the the airforce isn't allowed to organize it this year. If I am right, the Navy can't do it in 2013 and the Army can't do it in 2014.
Hopefully the complete list will be out soon after the new fiscal year starts.
Cheers,
Iwan

Can anyone give an insight into JGSDF Somagahara open house on the 14th April?
e.g. typical layout of the event (facilities appear northside of a roughly E-W runway), is there parking, does it get visitors, etc. ??
Uni,
thanks for that. Just one more question Do the helicopters that flypast/display, actually operate from the vicinity of the public area, or somewhere else?
Hi Paul,
The choppers are displayed in front of us at first.
After the (long long) ceremony speech, they take off and start the military review and the exercise.
Paul,
You're right.
Open 0800-1500, (air field only)
1000-1110 Military Review
1110-1200 Exercise
0900-1430 Experirntial ride on tanks and vehicles.
1230-1430 Static display
Uni wrote:Hi Iwan,
There will be the JASDF Komaki airshow in Sep. or Oct..
And usually, there will be JMSDF Ozuki, Tateyama, and Tokushima O.H. in the autumn.
Anyway, the Japanese budget of FY2012 will decide by Apr.6 this year.
Please wait for a moment!
Thanks Uni !
I will just sit back and wait for a few more days. But it's difficult, as I really like to start preparing the trip.
All the best from Holland,
Iwan

Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni has received several queries regarding the new policy of checking identification at this year's Friendship Day celebration. This advisory provides amplifying information. Because the policy is both new and something unusual in Japanese society, we respectfully and strongly request that recipients of this advisory use their respective forums to help us publicize this information.
We are aware that the request to bring identification is new this year. This additional security measure will help ensure the safety and is no cause for concern at the open house event. Passport, Driver's License, Health Insurance Card (Kenko Hokensho), Certificate of Residential Registration (Jumin Kihon Daicho Card), Certificate of Individual Seal Registration (Inkan Shomeisho), as well as any other ID with photo, full name, date of birth, gender and address are all acceptable forms of identification (supplemental paperwork is NOT required).
No visitors will be turned away based solely on lack of identification card. Guests who do not bring identification could be delayed to undergo additional security scrutiny before being granted access. The station reserves the right to deny entry to anyone for any reason. Non-Japanese guests MUST bring either passport or alien registration card to gain access to the air station. Children will not need to produce identification, however young adults (high school age to adult) are encouraged to bring student ID to verify their youth. We are aware that this is an unusual step to ask of our host nation residents, but we are equally sure they will understand the importance of security at this event. Your patience is appreciated.
All visitors to the air station will pass through a security screening checkpoint prior to entry. The following items are prohibited: Knives, model guns, fireworks, BBQ grills and any other items that may cause harm or a fire with the exception of cigarette lighters. Alcohol and pets are prohibited. Please refrain from bringing oversized bags/containers. All bags are subject to search. Oversized bags may slow down the screening process when coming aboard the base.
Questions and Answers:
Q: Why is the air station implementing an ID card check this year?
A: This additional security step is designed to increase security and no cause for concern for guests and station personnel.
Q: This does not seem like a friendly gesture. Is this designed to discourage attendance?
A: No. To the contrary, it will increase security and safety and help ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Q: Has there been some kind of security threat?
A: American military installations and personnel always endure the threat of potential targeting. This additional security step is part of a robust plan to ensure the safety and no cause for concern of our guests and residents.
Q: How will this delay entry to the event?
A: Patrons who bring identification will see no additional delays than in previous events. Patrons who fail to bring identification will undergo an additional security check. In order to keep lines moving for everyone to enjoy the event, we ask that everyone bring identification to help prevent lines forming for the additional check.
Q: Will this cause long lines or a greater backup, inconveniencing local residents?
A: This additional security check will have minimal impact to the expected congestion. It should be similar to any previous Friendship Day.
