5/2/2012 - EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The last C-130E model to be retired landed at Edwards May 1.
The plane left Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark., May 1, for its final home in the high desert where it will be a static display for the Air Force Flight Test Center Museum.
A ceremony is being planned for the unveiling of the legacy plane.
The Hercules, tail number 61-2358, is the first C-130E model to be produced by Lockheed Martin, and the last of its kind to be retired.
The C-130E fleet is slated to be replaced by the newer J models. The J models are more technologically advanced, but will keep the Hercules name.
