The visitor's terrace in Terminal 2 will re-open on Sunday 25MAR. This day the terrace will be open 10.00 - 19.00lt
You probably do not want to go there on the 25th! Because of a special kid's event taking place this day it will probably be more than full

From the 26th the terrace will be open daily from 10.00 until 18.00lt

One small question: could anyone (Gerard, perhaps) update us on what to expect as to the spotting possibilities now that the new runway has been open for several months? For instance, what is the current runway use, what has changed since the new runway opened, what would -in this new situation- be the best opportunities to make the most of a visit and so on? it would be most helpful for planning a visit, and thus much appreciated!

Edit: Obviously, I have already read what is in Scramble's "Airport"-section. I am looking more for information on what runway combinations are normally used and such.

Frank,

being in the luxury situation to have ramp-access, I haven't tried to shoot photos from outside the fence recently. I heard though that photo-opportunities at the new RWY 07L/25R are pretty good!

I suggest you have a look at this site, but you have to know some German though:
http://frankfurtspotters.forumieren.com ... otterkarte

This one might also come in handy (also in German):
http://www.spotteronline.de/airport_lin ... oints.html

Regarding your question on runway-in-use:
Landing only 07L/25R and 07R/25L
Take-off only 07C/25C and 18.

In exceptional cases 07C/25C is used for landings and 07R/25L for take-offs as well.
As a rule of thumb you can assume that 07L/25R is in use for all traffic coming from "the north" and 07R/25L for all traffic "from the south".
There are some restrictions in place for 07L/25R, resulting in e.g. A380/MD11 always landing on 07R/25L. As a consequence, to balance the traffic evenly over the runways, this "north/south rule" is not 100% adhered to!

I hope this info helps.

Regards,
Gerard

Frankfurt-Main spotting new runway 07L/25R

Post by camel1 »

Hello,

I am planning to go to Frankfurt-Main this summer. It has bin a long time ago that I have bean there, so…… .
I read about point 6 and 7 at the Scramble Airfield Guide, but can somebody tell me something about the new runway 07L/25R? I mean is it used in all direction for landing and take-off? (depending of the wind)
And is it used all day long or…..?

Thanks and best regards,

Coen

Re: Frankfurt-Main spotting new runway 07L/25R

Post by matthijso »

Hi Coen,

The new runway is used only for landing from both directions and normally it is opened all day. Usually landing takes place at the two outer runways and departures are from the West-runway and the center. The heavies B747, A380 and MD11 all take the old runway 07R/25L, all other aircraft can also land at the new runway. There is no clear division as to which flights take which runway.

Good luck!
Matthijs
