"Bmibaby services from East Midlands to Amsterdam, Paris, Geneva, Nice, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newquay, and from Birmingham to Knock and Amsterdam, will also end on 11 June.
It is also proposed that all bmibaby flights will cease to operate from 10 September".
So FlyBe did expected this and is starting EMA from AMS later this year.
Another airline gone...... a pitty and this will not be the last.
IAG, the parent company of British Airways, acquired the East Midlands-based airline from Lufthansa last month as part of the purchase of BMI. But IAG has always maintained it would ground the carrier if a buyer could not be found.
The first tranche of route closures takes effect over the weekend of 9 and 10 June, with all services from Belfast City (except the BMI link to Heathrow) and many from East Midlands ending. Nice, Alicante, Faro and Malaga are among the destinations affected. The links from Birmingham to Knock and Amsterdam will cease on the same weekend.
Routes to and from Heathrow are unaffected.
The closure of Bmibaby will also hit inbound tourism and business travel to Northern Ireland, with links from Amsterdam, Birmingham, East Midlands and Stansted abruptly abandoned.
bmibaby (WW, East Midlands (EMA)) will stop operations on September 20 after new parent British Airways (BA, London Heathrow (LHR)) has given up its pursuit of a potential buyer for the loss making low-cost carrier. Up to 500 bmibaby employees will be affected by the closure that will be executed in multiple phases. As of June 11, the Belfast George Best City (BHD) base will be closed from where the carrier has operated to Alicante (ALC), Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), Birmingham International (BHX), East Midlands (EMA), Faro (FAO), Ibiza (IBZ), London Stansted (STN), Malaga Pablo Ruiz Picasso (AGP), Menorca Mahón (MAH) and Palma de Mallorca Son Sant Joan (PMI) so far. At the same time, it will also give up its routes from Birmingham to Amsterdam and Knock Ireland West (NOC) as well as from East Midlands to Amsterdam, Edinburgh (EDI), Geneva Cointrin (GVA), Glasgow Abbotsinch International (GLA), Newquay Cornwall (NQY), Nice Côte d'Azur (NCE) and Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG). All remaining routes from Birmingham International (BHX) and East Midlands (EMA) will then no longer be served after the summer season from September 20. bmibaby currently operates 12 B737-300s and 2 B737-500s.
Following the sale of bmi to IAG on 20 April, we have been working closely with British Airways to deliver as smooth a transition as possible for our customers and we would like to take the opportunity to update you on some changes that will affect your future travel arrangements.
1. Some bmi routes will move to BA flight numbers
2. Booking bmi flights to/from London Heathrow
3. What to expect when you travel over the Summer
1. Some bmi routes will move to BA flight numbers
We plan to transition bmi flight numbers to BA flight numbers in phases, in order to ensure the process runs as effectively as possible.
With effect from 10 May the following bmi routes will move to a BA flight number:
If you have an existing booking on any of these routes, you do not need to do anything as either bmi or your travel agent will transfer your booking to the new flight number. Any new bookings will need to be made using the new BA flight number.
2. Booking bmi flights to/from London Heathrow
From 10 May, bmi flights to/from London Heathrow will only be available to be booked through British Airways, via ba.com or the airline's call centres or through your travel agent.
For customers who visit flybmi.com or call a bmi call centre, we will ensure that we provide information on how you can complete your booking.
3. What to expect when you travel over the Summer
As we confirmed in April, BA is planning to operate the bmi London Heathrow summer schedule. During this period, you will see that the exterior and interior design of our aircraft, as well as the onboard experience will gradually transform into a BA style.
