REQ: Airplane parts at Loon op Zand

Airplane parts at Loon op Zand

Hi all. I recently visited Experience Island at Loon op Zand. In between the 4x4 track there were several wrecks of old Land Rovers, but also some airplane parts. I found two engine cowlings, two wings and a nose cone.

I can’t figure out which plane these parts are from. Inside the engine cowlings I couldn’t find any clues, and on the wings I only saw RAF roundels, but no serials.

I know there’s another plane right there that is submerged in the nearby lake and used by divers as an attraction. It could be that those parts belong to that one, but I haven’t seen the wreck.

Anyone have an idea about the history of these parts or at least the type it might be?

I only can tell that the parts shown at your pics are from a former RAF Vickers V.668 Varsity T1. Can't confirm a serial and/or history.

Some sources at the www reported that at leased the nose of WJ944 (former noted at Wales Aircraft Museum) went to a Dutch private location some time ago (end 90's ?).
No idea in what kind of color the nose and engine cowling were painted (or maybe bare alu) when it was broken up (see below):

From source http://ciapoldiescorner.blogspot.nl/sea ... s+aircraft :

" ff 19/02/53 at Hurn - dd 11/03/53 to 8 MU Little Rissington - CNCS Shawbury 04/05/56 "A" - 2 ANS Thorney Island "A" - 1 ANS Stradishall "L" - 5 FTS Oakington "M" - 1 ANS Stradishall "Y" - 6 FTS Finningley "Y" - to WAM 13/04/76 by air from Finningley with callsign "CWM05" landing at 10:52 - painted in "raspberry ripple" scheme 80's - painted in fake RNZAF scheme early 90's as "NZ233", then to "RAF Transport Command" scheme mid 90's - scrapped on site by 02/96 - nose section to The Netherlands via Portsmouth "

Three pics to compare the different appearance of WJ944 can be found at:
