I decided to go spotting in Madrid for a few days to catch the Iberia A340-300's before they go. Of course the South Americans are also an attraction and the other traffic contained quite some good stuff as well.
I spotted from the "big mound" near spot 5 of the Scramble airfield guide. Due to the heat haze I was not (always) able to read off the traffic that used the far runways and stayed on the far side of terminal 4S (like for instance Emirates and Qatar). Luckily most of the traffic was clearly visible from the "big mound". I have included all aircraft noted, though I left out Spanish, Ryanair and EasyJet aircraft that had been seen before on this trip.

The late morning/early afternoon seems busiest at Madrid with most of the South Americans and Spanish heavies coming in/going out. The afternoon can be pretty slow, but then an Argentinian A340 makes it worth the wait, those new Aerolineas Argentinas colors look absolutely stunning in the sun! At around 14:30 I decided to pack up and be a tourist in Madrid for a couple of hours to satisfy the home front (Je bent voor het eerst in Madrid en je bent niet eens de stad in geweest?!?!?). The next day I would hear from Paul and John that the only thing I really missed was a Euro Atlantic 777.
Before that though I decided to spend a few hours at the mound in the evening to catch today's Argentinian. I could clearly hear the cheers coming from the cars on the road nearby when Spain scored their first goal against France, so I missed nothing of the game either
