Mojave - June 2012

Post by SilverWingPix »

Just recently back from a great week in California and Arizona. Day 1 was visits to Fox Field, Mojave and Victorville. We started by flying over the fields in a Cessna from Fox Field:

The gate guard´s:

Approaching the field from a southern direction.

The main storage and chop up area:

Storage area pre-chop up:

The main apron which is mostly empty:

Nice line up of DC-8´s - Nine of eleven ATI´s on the field:
Image

Spunky stuff can be seen there:
Image

Heavy crop:
Image

2 x Southern, 2 x TNT, 2 x Atlas, 2 x ATI, 2 x TF100 SuperSabre (ex RDAF):

Close up:

Lots of Southern 747, Air Canada 767 as well as 2 x Convair Coronado´s:

A closer view:

Gulfstreams at their final resting place:

Amazingly the two C-133´s still survive:
Image

Soon to be no more:

TNT:

Southern 747:

Two of three B-707´s seen:

Virgin Galactic took off while we were approaching the field and I unfortunately only got this heavily cropped shot. Note the Impala on short finals:

Cheers,
Egon.

Great stuff Egon (except those windmills, they really ruin the landscape IMO)! Looking forward to the other photos of your trip.

Back in 2008 it was possible to just ask for a tarmac tour in the terminal and for only $ 15 they will drive you slowly along most of the parked planes.

Thanks for your comments.

It is still possible to go on the tour airside, but no photography is allowed

The F-100F´s are ex RDAF machines and were flying from Bournemouth and Deci prior to their retirement. It is said that they are in near flyable condition.

I wonder how owns the C-133's ? Not many around anymore and somebody is holding on to them for a reason , would be awesome to see them back in a museum , rather than being stored at MHV.

MHV is great, and a very nice reportthis is. One small correction: the two Coronados you mention are actually a CV880 and a CV990...
