As a slight side-note to this Olympic item, the RNetherlandsAF has temporarily opened up some of the restricted military airspace over the Dutch province of Brabant for civilian (airliner) traffic. The purpose is to widen traffic-flow patterns into Heathrow airport during the Olympics, so that the expected increase in traffic can be dealt with more efficiently in the UK, thus avoiding "traffic jams" with airliners ...

The culprit...

http://avherald.com/h?article=45339f47&opt=0
A Thomas Cook Boeing 757-200, registration G-FCLI performing flight MT-3125 from Enfidha (Tunisia) to Glasgow,SC (UK) with 235 passengers and 8 crew,
was enroute at FL360 over France approaching the northern coast of France and about to enter British Airspace,
when radio contact with Air Traffic Control was lost
prompting Britain's Royal Airforce to dispatch a Typhoon to intercept the airliner at 12:20 British Summer Time (11:20Z).

While the fighter aircraft was climbing towards the airliner, the Boeing crew restored communication upon contacting UK Air Traffic Control.
The aircraft continued to Glasgow for a safe landing about one hour later.

Off the ground from Northolt at 12.22 and from the noise, half of west London must have heard it!.

The same jet (ZJ923) recovered to Northolt at 13.15.

The jet launched for this was ZJ923 DM of 11 Sqn again.Airborne at 16.42 and recovered 50 miniutes later at 17.32.

Left turnout from runway 25,straight through Heathrow's airspace.I bet their ATC were impressed!!.

Initially 2 jets were to launch, but the second one(code QO-S of 3 Sqn) was held on the ground.
