CNV5xx is used by the 5th fleet most of the time operating in/out of Bahrain, or at least coordinated by the Bahrain Navy det.
Same constuction for CNV6xx, 6th fleet Naples.
They also use CNV5xxx, but most of the time they have only 3 digits.

Pieter,
Thanks for the explanation, interesting! Same goes for the often heard (4 digit) CNV6xxx flightnumbers, 6th fleet related?
Going slightly off topic.

CNV2 is a C20
CNV3*** is a C130
CNV4*** is a C40
CNV5**/5*** is TDY middle east with 5th Fleet
CNV6**/6*** is Naples/ Sigonella TDY/based with 6th fleet
CNV7**/7*** is Far East /Japan with 7th fleet
CNV9*** is a C9
CNV8*** never heard/seen in any reports

Thanks for posting, Pieter. Didn't know the C-12 and C-20's had a fixed callsign as well. Maybe because you mainly hear C-9/C40/C-130's in our region.
And the use of the non-aircrafttype related callsign is now quit clear.
