Relics confusion in Hawaii

Post by D.R. »

While visiting Oahu in october I noted the following preserved Cobra's and Huey's, but which is which..

Wheeler AAF
70-15036 AH-1S believed to be 66-15298
70-27548 UH-1H (should be fake since the 27000 range didn't start until FY 04, right?)

NAS Barbers Point
69-15708 UH-1H

Pacific Aviation Museum, Ford Island
0-15708 UH-1 (could be 68-15708 or 70-15708 since 69-15708 is at Barbers Point)
0-15298 AH-1S which should be 66-15298 but this one is supposed to be at Wheeler AAF...

Somebody know the real ID's of these machines at Wheeler or Ford Island ?

Mr No-name,
New research has shown that 15036 at Wheeler cannot be 66-15298. This machine took part in the final flight of the Cobra in Hawaii on 12Mar99!
This should therefore be the correct identity of the Ford Island machine.

I have yet to positively identify the UH-1 at Ford Island. Thank you for reporting what you actually logged. This problem has not been helped in the past by it being reported as what people's databases think it is, rather than what it actually wears. This is one of the biggest problems in our hobby today IMHO.

Thank you Andy, I'll pencil in 66-15298 for the Ford Island AH-1.
I noticed in your Out of Service book that the UH-1 & AH-1 tails on Ford Island were swapped, adding to my confusion :)

Let's hope someone can fill in the other ID's.

Daniel
