REQ: children's days Thailand january 2013

Post by eriktex »

Hi all,

I might have the opportunity to visit those famed children's days in Thailand early 2013.

I will be in the Bangkok area so obviously one should go to Don Muang...

However, does anybody know from his own experience how many, and which airfields can be visited on that particular Saturday (Bangkok area)? I will have a dedicated local driver and I am more interested in serials rather than pictures.

Secondly, there seem to be rehearsals on the Friday - are these by any chance open to the public?!

Thanks in advance for your help,

Erik

The Don Muang static/ rehersal was open on production of an ID at around 17.00 on the Friday this year(2012).You overlook the static here from a parking lot.

It is feasable to visit Kampean Saen,Takhli, and some of the Lop Buri area in the same day.Entry usually before 08.00 and these events finish not later than 15.00.It depends on how long you want to look for preserved aircraft at different fields,as to how long it will take you to visit each base.At lop Buri there are lots of preserved aircraft(and a museum) scattered over the complex.

The static displays at some of the fields are not large.generally army bases are not open during these events.Air Force bases,U-Tapao,the police and KASET bases are. There is usually a small static on a sports field at the Lop Buri army area, which ends around 12.00,when the helicopters are flown beck to the army air field.

You would be definatly advised to do Don Muang on the Friday and start from wherever first thing Saturday.

Thai roads are not the safest in the world,so you need to take this into account.

Best of luck...........

Thanks for the update - but if Don Muang opens on the Friday for the public at 17:00 hrs...what time is it getting dark then? Should be at 18:00 right?

It would be nice to do Don Muang on the Friday-afternoon and then go those airfields outside Bangkok on the Saturday...

DMK was not officially open.we just happened to arrive and see people being let in if they handed in their IDs.That may not be the cast this year.Yoy do have a good view of the static from a nearby car park should you find you cannot enter the static area.

Sunset should be around 17.55,so it will be dark very shortly thereafter.

It has been reported that the Don Muang show will be on the 603 Sqn ramp for the first time since 2006.
