Visit to Bodø, any suggestions?

Post by Thermal »

Will be visting Bodø in a few weeks for work. Since my work is actually at the airport I hope to squeeze in some minutes to capture some of the local F-16's and Sea Kings there.

Does any one know how often and at which times 331 sqn and 332 sqn fly? Any days in the week better than others??

And are all the spots listed in the "where to go" database easy to access by foot or is it better I try to get a car??

Many thanks
I always say a boy can learn more at an airport than at any school.

I cannot tell you about best times, but the distances are very small. Last year we visited the airshow and did everything on foot. Walking from the terminal to the museum, the spotting place near the landing, to our hotel in the citycenter and back to the terminal again. It really is doable, except maybe when the temperatures are below zero (no idea about the weather right now).

Don't forget the Norsk Luftfart museum. It has a nice collection of Norwegian fighters and important planes for Norway (U-2). Located on walking distance from the airport.

But for photographing inside you need a flash light because it's pretty dark inside.

Only at the beginning of runway 25 you can take pictures of landing aircraft, the other side ends in water and is military area.
Behind the para club is a hill with bunkers from WWII were you stand out of sight of the military entrance and where you can make nice landing pictures.
And don't forget the main thing: Photographing around a military base is still forbidden in Norway.
Good hunting!
