News: 2 Federal Police Helicopters collided in Berlin

Post by Gerard »

Just heard on the news that 2 Bundespolizei Pumas collided during an exercise near the olympic stadium in Berlin on 21 March 2013.

At the moment it looks like one person perished and four are wounded.

According to an unconfirmed report, two helicopters on the ground had swirled so much snow in their landing that the third pilot could not see enough and crashed into one of the helicopters on the ground, killing one of the pilots and leaving five people hurt. The helicopters involved in this tragic collision near Berlin's Olympic Stadium were Eurocopter EC155 B Dauphin 2 D-HLTM that already had landed and Eurocopter AS332L1 Super Puma D-HEGB (helicopter # 3) that collidid with the EC155 B Dauphin 2 in an attempt to land between the AS332 L1 (helicopter # 2) and this EC155B (helicopter # 1).
The three Bundesminsterium des Innern o/b Bundespolizei' helicopters involved in the exercise near Berlin's Olympic Stadium were two AS332 L1 Super Pumas and one EC155 B Dauphin 2.

This link was now updated with a video of the accident. In this video you actually cannot see much, which confirms that visibility at least must have been a contributing factor to this accident.

Wow, looking at that video, it seems the visibility was next to nothing. Would they even have seen eachother?
