Really, we're aware of that....
And the F-15 (and later the F-4) will be part of the core museum display. But it's not going to be a 32nd TFS museum, it's a Dutch Defense Museum. We've got to make choices...
Yes and the 32nd TFS played a key role in the defense of the Netherlands during the cold war. Displaying its entire heritage, including the F-86, F-100 and F-102, would pay tribute to the close relationship between the United States Air Force and the Royal Netherlands Air Force during those years where the threat of Soviet aggression was not only possible but a likelihood.
While I could understand that, for budget reasons, it may not be possible to acquire all aircraft types that flew from Soesterberg but it baffles me that aircraft like the F-100 and F-102 would be scrapped while already part of the museum collection. Especially as neither the F-100 or F-102 are commonly seen in museums elsewhere.
Having been a visitor of the museum for over 30 years, I know very well that it covers more than just the 32nd TFS but purposely casting away half the Wolfhound heritage while planning to move the museum onto the airbase itself is an affront to the Bakermat.
