Last month when at Tampa spotting from the terminal garage I was questioned by the airport
police as I had been reported by the public. As soon as they recognised I was English they
knew I was tail number spotting and had no problems with that. However, they informed me
of a procedure that is in place to notify them that you are spotting around the airport. I
contacted the airport using the details provided and they request any spotters to follow
the following procedure.
You need to contact Brenda Perez at the airport guest services department giving 2 working
days notice so that they can email your details to the police. The following information is
requested:-
Name
Cell phone number
Drivers License number
Type of vehicle & license
Date(s), time & location
Brenda can be contacted either by email or phone:-
email : BPerez@TampaAirport.com , phone 813-870-7879
If you are unable to supply the details in advance or want to make an unplanned visit, you
can go to the airport police station and make the request in person. The police chief will
then make a decision on whether to give approval. To get here from the parking garage
take the elevators in the red area down to the second floor. Exit the terminal and you will
see the police station in front of you.
For info, I saw the same police officers the next day (after having got approval) and they
said that I had been reported twice more the previous day so it's important to let them
know what you're doing, similar to the procedure at the Houston airports.
