Turkish AF to withdraw (N)F-5-2000

Post by frank kramer »

Not seen reported here before, but the new Air International (May 2013) mentions that the THK has decided to withdraw the F-5-2000 from operational service. The type is currently operated by 133 Filo and 134 Akrotim Filo (aka Turkish Stars) at Konya. Their role (weapons and tactics training) is to be taken over by the T-38M (modernised Talon). 133 Filo is to be disbanded first, with operational flying ceasing in July, 2013. Apparently, no decision has been taken on the future of the Turkish Stars, although a re-equipment with TAI Hurkus turboprops is under consideration... :(
