Cagliari/Elmas

Post by jp 74 »

Hi, in a couple of weeks i'm leaving for my family holiday to Sardinia.
I was wondering if it is good spotting at Cagliari/Elmas i did not find anything on the scramble airfield guide.
I really would like some great pictures of those AB205 overthere, does somebody know the flying times? ( i guess from 8 till 12 and from 16 till ??).

Greetings Jeroen

It's quite ok for reading. Taking pictures is harder.

You can try to position yourself somewhere at the Via Dei Trasvolatire. The Guardia di Finanza and Police and some local flying clubs are situated over there. There is also a roundway along the 14 threshold leading to the military part opposite the civil part of the airfield. You can position yourself over there but military personal is using that road so i don't know how long you can stay. The other threshold 32 looks impossible.

I didn't try other positions.

By the way i didn't noticed any army AB205 during my stay (May 2011). You did better try your luck at Decimomannu. Flying activities can be good at this airfield when there is an detachment. Spotting conditions are good!

Have fun.
