VMM-265'Dragons' assumes MEU status

Post by Le Addeur noir »

By Tuesday 11th June VMM-265 has assumed MEU status and taken charge of the UH-1Y,AH-1W and CH-5E stationed at MCAS Futenma and will be the core unit of the 31st MEU(SOC).The unit is now VMM-265(C).

HMM-262 'Flying Tigers',the previous MEU core unit at MCAS Futenma is due to transfer to MCAS Miramar,CA on 01st October and (assumably) convert to MV-22Bs.

One of the MCAS Miramar MV-22B units is scheduled to transfer to Futenma by 01st October. This unit may assume the HMM(or by then VMM)-262 title on arrival in Okinawa.

That would be VMM-363 which transfers to Futenma as VMM-262. Then in 2015 according to one source it "splits": one portion returns to Kaneohe to re-form VMM-363. I have also read that the "old" HMM-262 moves to New River--not Miramar--to convert to the V-22.
