The general Shoigu explains that the exercise is the largest since Zapad-81. And the Zapad consisted of 100000 soldiers. This means that the exercise is the largest since 1930.s. Shoigu confirms 160000 soldiers in this exercise.

In the opening of the exercise transported 20 Il-76 an airborne brigade to Sakhalin to defend it. The brigade is the 83 DShBr from Ussuriysk with artillery. The brigade is supported by Ka-52 from Chernigovka.

The exercise now consist apart from units in Eastern Command also Central Command. Thus the soldiers now are ca 160000 (from Shoigu).

Among units are 41 O Army (Novosibirisk) and 74 MS Brigade (also Novosibirisk) seen railway transported.

Air bases also Shagol outside of Chelyabinsk.

As the Eastern exercise, is a new exercise strating in Western Command. Involving are 40 combat aircraft from Voronezh air base (re-surfacing). Two squadrons with Su-34 are performing 80 sorties, covering 4000km, and performing simulated strike missions within Western Command. Involved are 10 military airfields and two military testing areas. Defended by MiG-31 and Su-27.

Several ictures from the 247 Firing Range (Poligon) Shagol in the former Transbaikal MD area, now part of the Eastern Command.

Putin with Shoigu participated. This was a start for the new defence minister Shoigu. He have commanded the former emergency ministry, together with the Vorobyev.

Ground support aircraft is Su-25 from based at Chita-Domna (former Step Olovyanna).

Following armies used the firing ground in the exercise
41 O Army (Novosibirisk)
36 O Army (Uland Ude)
29 O Army (Chita)

Starting the exercise were the 11 Air Assault Brigade (11 DShBr) from Sosnovy Bor (Uland Ude). They were air transported by ca 10 Il-76, landing an re-inforced battalion with D-30 artillery.

Seen on pictures is Mi-8 and attacking Mi-24, certainly from the Chita base, maybee transfer to Domna.

Ground units made bridgde for ground units.

Several Motor Rifle brigades participated from the three armies.
