QF-4 crash in Florida?

Post by frank kramer »

According to Dutch newspaper Telegraaf, an unmanned aircraft crashed during take-off in Florida yesterday, July 17, 2013. Confusingly, as ever, they can't tell the difference between a drone and a Phantom, as they refer to the QF-4 as a "small aircraft".

apparently one that didn't wanted to be shot down :

although a sad loss of a beautiful plane, luckily a 'remote' one, so no crew injured.

A drone, either being a converted F-4 or a modern UAV, is an aircraft. So nothing wrong with that. So one could refer to the QF-4 as a drone and as an aircraft imho.

the QF-4 is an aircraft converted to drone, or to be more precise : a Full Scale Aerial Target.
The Telegraaf is calling the drone in question a 'small aircraft'.

Wouldn't call the Full Scale Phantom a 'small aircraft'..... would you ?
So, there The Telegraaf is wrong :D

As a CIV spotter, all jetfighters are small. But I understand what you mean ;)

Somewhere I read that this was the second QF-4 crash in a week. The other one did what is was supposed to do... Being shot down. Unfortunately, I can't find the source of this news.
