HH-60 crash Okinawa

Post by dutchphantom »

From the Kadena website:

8/5/2013 - KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- Search operations for the missing crew member from yesterday's HH-60 crash in the Central Training Area have been suspended due to the discovery of human remains at the crash site. The remains have yet to be identified.

Officials continue their work to ensure the fire has been extinguished and to ensure the site is safe for investigators to approach.

The three crew members recovered yesterday are all in stable condition and have received appropriate medical care for their injuries at the U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa.

To help focus on the ongoing search and recovery operations, 18th Wing leadership has suspended flying activities for today except for operationally required missions. Flight operations for fixed-wing aircraft are scheduled to resume tomorrow. It is not yet known when the rescue squadron will resume flying.

The safety of all wing operations remains the priority at all times. A board will convene to investigate the cause of the accident. More details will be released as they become available.

There are now 4 candidates for this crash, these are,

89-26209
89-26210
91-26401
91-26406

The crash Pave Hawk is reported as being a 33 RQS flagship bird, there are 2 recent candidatrs for this,91-26401 and 91-26403.91-26403 has been seen flying at Kadena since the crash with the 33 RQS markings removed.

So at this point it would seem likely the crash victim was 91-26401.

Comments,corrections,etc?.
