On Friday 6 September a Hercules made an approach, but changed his mind and made an overshoot instead. Unfortunately for me, the strong backlight sun made the bird too dark to identify. I could only see its roundle, which was Turkish. Or maybe Peruvian.... which seems far fetched, but with Alverca nearby it isn't even that strange... Anyway, whichever it was, it wasn't Portuguese. If anybody has a clue to its identity I would very interested.

Erwin,
If you have a more specific time you could try to listen to Lisbon tower or approach via
http://www.liveatc.net/archive.php?m=lppt_app
or
http://www.liveatc.net/archive.php?m=lppt_twr.
Then you have a callsign, and perhaps this can lead to a solution.
I had a look at SBS, and could only see one Spanish and one Belgium C130 last Friday in the Lisbon area..

Thanks! I did find it. At 10.10 UTC a plane is transferred from approach to tower and the tower confirms it will make an approach and then a final to Alverca (as I suspected). However, the callsign is difficult to hear. It sounds like 'Vectum 1111' or something like that (the 1111 is clear). Other than that, no clue, as the voice of the pilot is just about impossible to even hear.

By the way, it certainly didn't look like a Belgian or Spanish Herc, as it was camouflaged.

Erwin,
I listened to the files, i am pretty sure it's Cotam1111(best to hear at 10.05.50 UTC) which would make it a FrenchAF 130.
The pilot sounds very Portuguese, so my guess is a FAF C130 on a testflight from Alverca with a factory pilot after maintenance( don't know if the FAF C130's are doing there APK at Alverca?)
I checked out SBS records without result, so i supose he had his mode-s switched off which is not unusual for FAF 130,s.

Pieter,

I go with you! I am not very experienced with radio traffic, so Cotam it probably is. The roundle was like the French, I just thought it was red-white-red but with the backlight it might just have been red-white-blue.
So a FAF Herc it was then.

Thanks for the help!
