Sliac IAF 31.8 - 1.9.13 query

Post by Vulture One »

Morning all,

Not the largest show this year but a very good one, excellent flying and great weather on Saturday. Happy to post up a list if anyone is interested but have gaps myself. Seemed to be many spotters there and at Spotters Day (which we weren't).

At south end there were 8 Albatros, 3 camo and 5 red/white/blue. We read 1730 camo and 0745, 0730, 5254 all r/w/b then 4703 camo. Two r/w/b ones unable to identify plus camo one beside special mks Mig-29 furthest south.
There were also six Mig-29s, one unidentified in a bag, 2022 and 5113 read off, 7501 furthest south and another two unidentified.

If anyone can help with the missing three Albatros and missing three Mig-29s, much appreciated.

Plus Polish Su-22 on southern apron so many thanks.

We spent six days driving around Slovakia chasing W&R so again if interested let me know and I shall post the log, Not quite ready yet though.

Many thanks

Hi,

Shall post the log here when complete, no worries and will be quite lengthy. Still seeking these seven gaps for the show though. :)

I'd certainly be interested in the log and any comments on the show as I'm seriously considering this one for next year.

Also, was the joint display/flypast by the Czech and Slovak air forces spectacular or not? They are scheduled to repeat this flyby at Ostrava when I'm there in a couple of weeks.

Thanks.

Evening,

Log still not fully sorted - busy at Leuchars this weekend too. Sliac was not one of the great shows this year but was a very good one. Flying ramp aircraft went two ways - one towards the crowdline and superb for photos, the other away. We tried for VIP tickets for enclosure which looked better as had seats and tables but closer to south ramp as well but sold out and had to be purchased on internet - then posted by mail - seemed strange. We ended buying our tickets in Poprad the day before. Recommend the VIP for a little more comfort at 30 Euros as opposed to the 10 Euros for the massed hordes like us.

Backdrop is good for photos, static had plenty of space and as runway is pretty much north south, no issues with sun. Spotter enclosure was half empty and were not for being bribed for access - needed to be registered with a wrist band.

Got superb views of south ramp from Sielnica bridge and fields (which were full of Slovaks) to west of field and in honesty we got some excellent shots of the displays from that motorway exit when we left at 4pm ish. If I was going again, I might avoid the often tight static walkways and sit in relative comfort by car outside. Needed to be outside to see the stored stuff - which is still required from start of thread - anybody on this Group went to the spotters day and clocked them?

Czech + Slovak was a Mig-29 with Gripen and two Albatros (Cz and Sk) and not in the spectacular bracket. Lots of emotive issues at end of August in Slovakia so not for the spectacle but for the meaning more. A proud and beautiful country and worth a holiday without spotting :>)

Thanks for all that great info. If the show is on next year, I hope to combine it with a few (non-aviation) days in the area.

From photos I took over the fence while leaving on the bus I have identified MiG-29A 0820 and MiG-29UB 4401 in the storage area.

Morning Mark,

Many thanks for taking this time to reply, much appreciated. I'd worked out that two of them could have been these with 6825 the third but as last reports were September last year, more up to date was required - cpuld not good enough. Photo confirmation is always the best by far.

So much appreciated, Mark and hope you enjoyed the show and got away from the traffic OK, looked quite well organised. Cheers.
