Israeli warplanes struck Syrian air defence base

Israel warplanes struck a military base near the Syrian port city of Latakia this week, an Obama administration official told CNN on Thursday.

The target according the Obama administration official, was missiles and related equipment the Israelis felt might be transferred to the Lebanon-based Hezbollah. The official declined to be identified because of the sensitive nature of the information.

Several explosions close the air defence base in Snublar Jableh-area, said Rami Abdel Rahman from the critical Syrian Human Rights observation.

The missiles could be transported with Russian Amphibian ships. In September 2013 was air missiles observed on Amp ships.

Israel deny all foreign information.

On Earth Google were is an air defence base 35/24/49-35/55/23 south of Latakia just north of Snublar Jableh-area.

2006 with SA-2. No source information and only speculations of today equipment. In September 2013 admitted Russia that SA-20 parts have been delivered, and the rest are to be delivered "soon".

Israeli warplanes struck Syrian air defence base near Jableh.
Al-Arabija report Israeli aircraft struck a target in Damascus. The attack against Latakia, performed ca. 19.00 Wednesday (Israel Haaretz), performed since a missile shot from base during Wednesday. The mission was to cleen up the rest of SA-8 after the 2013.07.05 bombing.
Al-Arabiyas report said two targets had been hit in Syria on Wednesday night – not just the Latakia air defence base, but a target in Damascus as well. Both targets were said to have contained shipments of Russian SA-8 anti-aircraft missiles meant for Hezbollah, which were reportedly completely destroyed (the Times of Israel). A map of Latakia airbase posted online shows three batteries of the Russian-made surface-to-air anti-aircraft missile at the base,outside Snobar Jableh in the countrys coastal Latakia region. A massive explosion was reported at the base late Wednesday night, with some reports that it was targeted by missiles fired from the sea. The Syrian news outlet Dam Press, considered loyal to the regime of Bashar Assad, reported that the site was damaged but that there had been no injuries.
Syrian rebels and a U.S. official cited by CNN said Thursday Israel had mounted a new attack on a Syrian military base but the Israeli government declined to confirm any strike.
CNN Quoted an unidentified US administration official on Thursday as saying Israeli warplanes struck a Syrian base near the port of Latakia, targeting missiles that Israel might be transferred to its Lebanese militia enemy Hezbollah.
We are not commenting on these reports,” an Israeli Defence Ministry spokesman said. The government has not commented publicly on at least three attacks on Syria this year.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which collates reports from opposition activists, said late on Wednesday that there has been an explosion at an air defence base near Jableh, on the Medititerranean coust south of Latakia (AP).
The Lebanese military said six Israeli jets had flown over Lebanese territory on Wednesday. Israeli aerial incursions over Lebanon are frequent, but such high numbers have in the past sometimes been an indication of military strikes against Syria (AP).
Former Syrian intelligence agent Afaq Ahmad, a defector now in exile in france, told Reuters that contacs of his inside Syria, including in Latakia province, told him Russian-made ballistic missile hade been kept at the site that was attacked (Reuters).
