Status VT-EVB Air India B747

Post by Richard from Rotterdam »

On the 1st of November I saw B747 VT-EVB of Air India at London Heathrow. As a mainly military spotter I didn't pay any real attention, but on a Heathrow movements site I saw this one declared a "biz jet". Some searching on Airliner.net etc I saw that it was used regularly by the Indian president as a VIP jet for state visits etc.

Can someone clarify the actual status of this jet? Can we call it "India 1", or is it also in use as a regular airliner?

TIA

Richard.

I would say not. At least in the past it was a normal B747 in the Air India fleet and apparantly used occasionally for VIP/government transport. Just like the Chinese use Air China Jumbos. If it is still also flying normal Air India flights right now is hard to say. The fleet is down to just a handful of frames and I am not sure how they are still operated.

Flightradar has this frame, operating mainly AIC1-flights but also operating the route Mumbai-Delhi.
