Sjoerd, I believe Illesheim has been renamed ETIK by ICAO quite some years ago..Sjoerd wrote:I just noted that there had been no topic created yet for this year, even now the year has come close to an end. Let's change that!
Later this week I will be staying near Ramstein for a couple of days and I was planning to maybe go the the Ansbach/Illesheim region too. Has anyone got any clue wether the based helo's will be parked on their ramps during/after this Christmas period? I guess flying will limited or even out of bounds, but do they have the space to hangar all helo's or can one expect still lots to be parked on the ramp to be read off?
I'm asking because it is still a 2,5hrs drive (and back) from Ramstein to Ansbach and I hate to waste that time for nothing. Off course a LOG will follow if I visited the place.

I believe that Illesheim is pretty though from the outside, maybe if you climb some trees but still the ramp is pretty far away. Ansbach is better from the outside and I have seen aircraft and helicopters parked outside on the ramp during weekends etc before.
good luck,

Hello Sjoerd,Sjoerd wrote:As promissed, here's my log of Dec-27th. The info from Jeroen regarding the positioning on the ramps/matching units was fully aplicable for the below too. The below was read from left to right:
AH-64D, no mks, thought to be C/3-159th Avn: (02-05)343, (04-054)28, (04-05)433, (10-)05620 [in front of a hangar]
AH-64D, no mks, thought to be B/3-159th Avn: (03-053)61, (03-)05367, xx-xxxx48 (misread for 04-05446?), (02-)05322 [in front of a hanger]
AH-64D, no mks, thought to be A/3-159th Avn: (99-0)5130, (02-05)311, (02-05)323, 10-0561x (unknown to be an Illesheim a/c)
AH-64D C/2-159th Avn: (02-053)04
AH-64D B/2-159th Avn: (03-0)5381, (09-055)80
AH-64D A/2-159th Avn: (03-054)18, (0)5-7010 (serial presented as 57010)
UH-60L (no mks, thought to be C/3-158th Avn): 96-26682
Unfortunately not as much as hoped for, but I'm still happy with the result and definately have to get back there soon.
Do note that apart from a good scope, you want to have a low sun and no winds! Sun was no problem this time, but the wind was. In combination with some worn out serials and the curvuture of the tail, not all serials where read. I hope someone can help confirm the missing ones.
Cheers,
That information is already long outdated. The Apaches of Illesheim have been taken to Afghanistan and Kuwait and they recieved new ones when they returned. If you're still member of MAR, check edition May2013 which has the full correct list.wilsend wrote:In fy 10 the only possiblity for (10)-0561? is 10-05619 and this one was according MAR 1-2012
