A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 plane sucked in an empty baggage container into one of its engines at Singapore Changi Airport last week.
Flight SQ421 had arrived in Singapore from Mumbai on the afternoon of December 19.
The plane was taxiing toward the gate when an LD3 container next to the jetway got sucked into one of its engines.
Passengers were about to leave the plane to catch another flight when the accident happened.
According to Singapore Airlines, no injuries were reported on the ground or on board the plane. Police are currently investigating the incident.
The ground crew at Singapore's Changi Airport may have some explaining to do after a container was sucked into the engine of a Boeing 777,
causing an estimated $15 million worth of damage in under 30 seconds.
The costly accident took place on Thursday afternoon as a Singapore Airlines plane was taxiing into a bay, Asia One reports.
A surveillance video of the incident shows the large metal container being sucked into one of the engines underneath the plane's wing,
destroying the box and engine in the process.
No one on the ground or aboard the aircraft was injured but the financial pain will be significant.
The airline said the incident is being investigated.
"As investigations will be carried out by the relevant authorities, we are unable to provide details on the damage to the engine at this point in time," a spokesperson said.
"Singapore Airlines will co-operate fully with the authorities in their investigations."
