There they join the other Russian naval ships.

The carrier is supposed to be a show of force in support of one mister Assad in Syria. Russia has a naval base there.

Russia has around 20 large surface combattants in service - the Western world with USA, Japan, etc has around 150 large surface combattants / all linked with space, computor command and intelligence systems.

Most of them with a lot of aircraft or helicopters.
