A Jordanian Air Force fighter jet has crashed after suffering a technical glitch during a training flight, with the pilot ejecting safely and remaining unhurt.

The aircraft went down at 12:20 p.m. local time (1020 GMT) on Sunday. The pilot, Capitan Ahmad Hazem Alawneh, ejected and survived the crash unhurt, state-run Petra news agency reported.

In May 2013, two people were killed after a military aircraft suffered a technical glitch during a routine training flight, and went down in northern Jordan, killing both the pilot and the trainee on board.

The British-built two-seat Fairey Firefly plane fell in an area west of King Hussein Air College in the city of Mafraq, situated about 80 kilometers (49 miles) north of the capital, Amman.

In January 2012, a Jordanian pilot was killed after his military aircraft crashed on a training flight due to a technical problem.

Another Jordanian air force plane crashed during a military exercise in September 2010, killing the pilot. The crash took place in a military zone and technical malfunction was blamed for the mishap.
