Heathrow Opens T4 Plane-Spotting Deck

London Heathrow has opened a new plane-spotting observation deck at Terminal 4.

Terminal 4's new 270-degree observation deck is located between gates 15 and 16 and was converted from a former airline lounge.

It has a view of the southern runway, the control tower and British Airways' Concorde.

Fixed ipads on the platform show live flight radars, so that passengers can identify the aircraft movements in front of them, and binoculars to get a better view.

Note that this is airside only. So if you are not travelling, you can't get there...

Is there any more info available with regard to glass and backlight (or even example photos)? If photo opportunities are good it might be worth a day trip by plane (assuming it's possible to stay airside).

T4 is the most southern terminal. If you look from there towards the southern runway you look in a northernly direction, so if there is sun it will mostly be from behind.

Doubt if they are happy if someone wants to spend a day there. My experiences at T4 are that they don't want people to go through customs/security earlier then 3 hours before departure, due to the capacity of the terminal at airside.
