BAF/BLu F-16

Post by Stafsels »

Hi all,

Just was scrolling down my pictures from Frisian Flag 2014. I noticed FA72 was wearing another paintjob as standard camo than FA133. The scramble database mentioned that FA72 was wearing a new BAF F-16 camo.

Only difference I saw was that the FS36118 paint was further in the front of the teardrop shaped cockpit than on FA133.
What's the story with the new Belgian livery?

Greetings,

Stafsels

Nobody really knows why this repaint trial started, all I know is that all F-16s will be repainted in this new US-style 2 tone grey. On FA72 the visual effects are not that good to recon from a normal one however the colours used are different than normal. The dark grey of the old version is lighter/brighter on the new style. Recon this has to do with being less visible in the air, FA87 and FB20 show it better.

Well, on FA72 it is very clearly visible that 'danger'-triangles, 'rescue'-arrows etc are toned down compared to "normally" painted F-16's (orange 'danger'-triangle & white 'rescue'-arrow)

Might it be that the BAF has updated to the latest NATO Mil spec's and the new paint job reflects these standards?
If I seem to remember - European based USAF jets in the early blocks (ie 5 and 10) had high vis warning labels.
Have to double check that - I'm not 100% certain that's correct.

Has Belgium also switched to OGMA in Portugal for paintjobs? Seems to me that might be the origin of this adjusted coat of paint, in the style of the American F-16Cs etc.
