Accident causes F- 16 suspension of operations of Antofagasta airport

The crash of an F - 16 of the Chilean Air Force (FACH ) , forced Thursday to close the terminal Cerro Moreno Antofagasta .
Through a statement, the FACH reported that " an aircraft endowment of V Air Brigade which was on a routine mission , suffered a malfunction at the time of his landing , staying on track Cerro Moreno" .
The institution added that " the pilot controlled the situation resulting unharmed ."
Local media had reported earlier that after a failure in the landing the pilot was forced to eject from the cockpit.
Chile has an endowment of 46 F- 16 the largest in Latin America , although most are second hand .
Because of the accident , at the airport are working emergency equipment FACH , firefighters and police so commercial flights to and from Antofagasta were suspended.
