Flugplatz Altenstadt

Post by Buccaneer S.2B »

Good afternoon,

A question: the Noratlas at Altenstadt airfield in Bavaria, can it be seen from outside ?
Maybe from the road leading along the East-side of the airfield ?

regards,

If you look at satellite imagery it is completely surrounded by trees and buildings. Small chance I would say (although never been there myself, so cannot say for sure).

Remco,

As far as I know it can be seen from outside. I have seen it, although this was some time ago.
You can drive along the dirt track from the west side to the north side (this is outside the base fence)
were the small airfield named Schongau is. From that area I have seen the Noratlas.

Otger

It should be quite difficult to see it from the outside, unless you enter the military ground (airfield), which is not fenced due to the Para Jumpers. So theoretically anyone can enter the airfield/dropping area. But you should refrain from that - remember there are army soldiers and you sure would not like to become part of an realistic training.

The NORA itself is parked within the fenced KASERNE (barracks).

But why don't you send a message to the unit requesting a short visit to see this bird and the C-160 airframe, and possibly some drop aircraft.

With google you should find out the adress.

Best wishes

Herbie
