You should not judge to early. Although I did not even register for the spottersday (as I thought the chances where to small ...), I can imagine SOME of those people might have UNDERSTANDABLE reasons (e.g. illness)?
Regarding the others, maybe the fact that a lot of aircraft already arrived yesterday (I was there hoping just for the airpower and the few announced arrivals and was surprised by the number of arrrivals) also made people think of cancelling.
Not to forget cancellations of aircraft. So if air men are allowed to cancell due to any reason, why should spotters not be allowed?
By the way: log from today so far: 07:45 until 08.10 NIL movements, west wind, approach lights switched on on the good sight:
Wx: broken clouds (7/8), no sun, clear air, denser clouds approaching from the North, light to moderate wind, feeling cool.
