HAF - 480th FS Joint Training

Nearly 20 aircraft left Spangdahlem in support of the joint training, between HAF's Tactical Command squadrons and USAFE's 480th FS. The F-16CMs will station for a period of 12 days at 115 CW (Pteriga Mahis) which is located at Souda Bay Greece.

Wow... a deployment by 18 F-16's... how about that! I was in Rethymno for a week and last friday (8-8) and yesterday (monday, 11-8) we saw two six-ships of F-16's overhead making their way to Souda... Unfortunately, they were still too high to make out (without binoculars) whether they were Greek or other F-16's.

Must be kinda quiet at Spang right now...

Further on my post: I checked the two pictures I took of F-16's flying high over Chania on August 8... and the six-ship I mentioned was indeed an USAFE one... The pictures were taken with 105mm and the F-16's were quite high (so: not worth copying them here), but what I can see is that they lack the dragchute fairing of the Greek F-16's and are in "normal" F-16 colours rather than the Aegean One scheme. Tsss. Don't know whether I should be happy about the Spang catch or sad about it not being Greeks...
