According information from AFP yesterday was the pro Russians get 23 armor vehicles from the other side of the border. Two British journalists were eye witness to the border transfer, one of them from the Guardian.

Newly information states that among the 23 vehicles were a SA-10 air defence system, with reach of 3500 m height. The information suggest that it was this system who shut down the Mig-29.

Other information state that the pilot is caught by the pro Russians.

slightly offtopic, but it looks 'easy' to shot these fighters out of the sky. Is it because the equipment they got from russia, or because the lack of skill from the pilots?

Consider the success of the SA-2 over North Vietnam against US Air Force and US Navy aircraft including F-4s, F-105s, B-52Hs. Even when adding radar warning receivers and jamming, these aircraft remained very vulnerable against radar guided surface to air missiles.

Now consider that the SA-10 is a highly modern air defence system, several times more advanced than the 'ancient' SA-2 of the mid sixties and that the Ukraine Air Force lacks ELINT, jamming and SEAD capabilities to counter these threats. A skilled pilot may be able to out turn an earlier model SAM like the SA-2 or SA-3 (beaming) but modern day SAMs utilize thrust-vectoring missiles that can pull many more Gs than any modern fighter can sustain, let alone its human occupant.

Based on the YouTube films and photographs I have seen it was a MiG-29, parts of the wreckage shows the new digital colourscheme and as far as I know the one which was wearing this colourscheme was the MiG-29 (9-13) 02 (blue/white lined) with c/n 2960729049

The 234 pdp (air landing regiment) performed last days a validiation test (exercise) on two air bases.
One of them Migalowo air base. The equipped forces is near a light infantry unit with 12 vehicles. One of them Strela-10, and Migalawo is close to Eastern Ukraine.
The ground unit was backed up by helicopters from 15 Brigade (Ostrov) and combat fixed wing air support.

It is the 15 Brigade with new produced Ka-52 (12) Mi-35 (4) Mi-26 (4) Mi-8MTV-5 (15) who is made up the army air support of the Western Military District against Ukraine.
