Trip Portugal (CIV/MIL)

Post by ehusmann »

A couple of days driving around the country and visiting some of the Portuguese Air Force bases delivered the following results.

Monday we started at Montijo, but unfortunately a visit was not possible as our contact was away. So we drove on to Sintra. The museum is closed on Mondays and holidays (of course), so only some operational stuff. All TB.30s went flying after lunch and also some Chipmunks went about. After Sintra we drove on to Cascais for a look around and finally Lisbon.

On Tuesday it was time for Beja. Only halfway down the route we got confirmation we were welcome which indeed was the case. The visit was a bit short due to other obligations by our guide, but at least we managed to get the storage hangar full of Alpha Jets and some others. After that we went back to Sintra to get the museum again. Museum not listed here, but full inventory can be found here.

On Thursday we gave Montijo another try and this time a reserve officer accompanied us and he got us through the gate in no time. In a former Puma diver we found a guide and he took us everywhere, except into the Marinha hangar. Therefore two Lynxes inside remained unidentified. Later we also noticed two more C.295 tails in an area we did not go with the guide, so also those were missed.
The stored Hercules was still in the camo colours and engineless near the platform. It may just be waiting for new parts, but it may also be a spares source itself....
