Counting down the still unsold C-17s...

Post by Stratofreighter »

Boeing has sold two more C-17 transports to an undisclosed customer, but it will likely end the year with eight unsold white tails.

At least two countries – Australia and Canada – have publicly announced an intention to purchase a C-17, though neither factor into Boeing’s future planning, Pitts says.

Until contracts are finalised, the number available remains eight, she says.

The Royal Canadian Air Force already has four C-17As, according to Flightglobal’s World Air Forces 2014 directory.

Canadian news outlets reported earlier in December that the air force would buy one C-17 with money left over at the end of 2015.

Australia is further along with its bid to purchase C-17s. The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency in November announced Australia was approved to buy up to four C-17s and support equipment for $1.6 billion.
The Royal Australian Air Force already operates six C-17As.

Polticians in New Zealand played down any future C-17 buy since they have a budget for no more than ONE C-17 replacing 5 fifty-year old C-130s. The C-130's have been upgraded between 2005-now so I think they are not in a hurry to commit anyway.

All wrong, now it can be revealed they have been ordered by a Dutch philanthropist Mr Sin-ter-Klaas to replace his fleet of 300 year old sleighs. A spokesreindeer from the RWU (Reindeer Workers Union) who prefers to use his nom-de-plume, Rudolf the Red, claims to be furious that his members were not consulted prior to the decision to buy American Moose to replace indigenous reindeer. The sacking of Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen will lead to etc etc

As of Thursday (26feb2015),
Boeing has seven unsold C-17s waiting for customers, according to the company.

Australia may acquire two of those planes and the company could not confirm a Reuters report that the United Arab Emirates had just purchased two of the aircraft.
