US CA,AZ,NV trip day 7 El Centro (photo)

Post by stipjes »

TvB and I are on a trip with the main goals being the Iraqi F-16's at Tucson and the Red Flag at Nellis. We left Schiphol Thursdaymorning and landed with a delay at LAX in the afternoon. Today (Friday) we visited March. There was not too much activity but the E-6 was worth the waiting. We needed the time anyway because the military where busy with us (checking passports etc.).

We also visited some other places today. Point Mugu was a bit boring so we left soon.
Image
Out of the 4 C-130J's parked on the platform this was the (only) one with Fire Fighting markings.
Image
At van Nuys I saw this HU-25 for the first time. Anyone for the serial?
Image
At Hemet-Ryan Field we saw lot of different fire fighters, S.64's, UH-1H, S.61, S-2T's and an OV-10.

Cool, Pat! C-5M boring sound, right? Nice background in the March pics!

Bring 'koelkastmagneetje' for April-Lynn? :-) ;-)

US CA,AZ,NV trip day 2 (photo)

Today we had a very bumpy ride with 4 Buckers. We managed to keep the breakfast inside.

Ton shot this pic, I am in the Bleu Aero 104, a CZ build Bucker. An ex A-4, F9F, T-2, F-8, F-4, S-2 and S-3 pilot is flying it....

After San Diego we drove to Yuma where the was some activity during and just after sunset.

This pic is taken about 23 seconds before sunset. I have no idea which Army unit it belongs to.
Image

After a 5 hour drive we just arrived in Tucson for a AMARG flight tomorrow, lets hope the weather is good and the old Cessna is ok....
And Piet, thanks. 2114 would be a nice one, and Stephan, I wont forget them.

Full serial is 12-20470, and it concerns a MH-60M of the notorious 160th SOAR. Nice catch!

US CA,AZ,NV trip day 3 (photo)

Post by stipjes »

Today (Sunday) we flew over AMARG for more then an hour. It is very busy at the platforms at the moment. Lots of helicopters. We counted many OH-58D's and SeaHawks. A lot of Sherpa's have come over from their storage in Texas and Orions keep coming in. On the Davis Monthan platform 12 snowbird MI A-10's we read off. Here is an impression.

Wow, that Nightstalkers MH-60 is one of those once-in-a-life-time catches! Also well done on that B-52H at Davis-Monthan AFB!
If I'm not mistaken, that should be the B-52H that is being brought back into service again - the only B-52H to ever leave AMARG again, instead of being chopped up.

Great news, thanks for the information! We were already hoping it would get back into service. Would love to see it make a test flight in these colours.....

Yesterday (teusday) we woke up dissapointed. It was raining. We drove to Tucson IAP (after changing our non cruise control car) and there was nothing happening..... We were really hoping the Iraki would fly... In the rain we drove to Davis Monthan were it also was very silent. It stopped raining after a while and a few A-10's came in! Also the canopies of the MIANG A-10's opened! At the end of the day 28 A-10 flew and during a quick stop at Tucson we saw 2 Iraki land! The day was great with a lot of visitors on both bases.
First some A-10 variation at DM:

I promised to put the MI online, here they are: 81-975,80-263,78-641,80-255,80-221,..-163,80-257,..-265,81-996,81-994,80-262,78-689. Corrections are welcome.

Next stop Nellis.
