AMS busier airport than FRA - Dec 2014

Over the last few years AMS has slowly been gaining on FRA airport in both aircraft movements and passengers.

In the month of December 2014, AMS - for the first time ever - was busier than FRA airport in movements.

DECEMBER 2014:
- AMSTERDAM, NL (AMS) 33 811 movements +3.3%
- FRANKFURT, DE (FRA) 32 954 movements -5.2%

For the full 12 months, FRA remains busier on all accounts, but AMS continues to gain on FRA:

(1) Movements 2014:

- FRANKFURT, DE (FRA) 469 026 -0.8%
- AMSTERDAM, NL (AMS) 452 687 +2.9% (if AMS and FRA continue to grow at these rates, AMS will overtake FRA in 2015)

(2) Passengers 2014:

- FRANKFURT, DE (FRA) 59.566.132 +2.6%
- AMSTERDAM, NL (AMS) 54.978.023 +4.6%

(3) Freight 2014:

- FRANKFURT, DE (FRA) 2.132.132 +1.8%
- AMSTERDAM, NL (AMS) 1.670.674 +6.7%

Well, in all fairness: LH pilots caused 12 strikes within a one year period (until mid-March 2015), so I suppose that this has been a major factor in these numbers.

Did they also have strike days in December? If so it would indeed explain something. But even so, still amazing numbers and it will be interesting to see how 2015 develops.
